The Saturday Round-up 30/9

The Mens 1’s had a long trip to Hexham to take on Tynedale 1’s and started strongly. A returning Gary opened the scoring shortly before Oli made it 2-0. A small fightback from the hosts made it 2-2 at half time. The boys left it late with Josh scoring a short scorner 5 minutes from time before Gary finished off proceedings to make it a great 4-2 win. The win kick starts their season after a disappointing 1st game and then a week off last week. Next week they host Carlisle 1’s, which is always a battle.

The Ladies 1’s took on Durham University 5’s and put on a show for the home spectators. After dominating the first half, the ladies took a 2-0 lead going into half time through goals from Kait and Amelia. With goalkeeper Bea only touching the ball once the dominating result was sealed by captain Aislin, finishing 3-0. 3 wins out of 3 after promotion last year, the ladies 1’s are flying high. Next week they travel to Whitley Bay 2’s in what should be another tough test for the team.

The Ladies 2’s opened the weekend of Norton Hockey with a rather chaotic match against Danby 2’s. 4-4 at half time, not many times you will see that this season! The second half was 1-0 in Norton’s favour meaning another 3 points for the team. Goals were spread between Rachel, Lucy, Freya and Debbie getting yet another brace. Next week sees the team take on table topping Redcar 1’s.

The Mens 2’s, following on from home wins for both ladies’ teams prior to their match had a tough act to follow. Callum stole the show with 4 goals to take all 3 points against Redcar 1’s. Despite going down 1-0 early on the team fought back with good solid play all round. Next week the team take a long trek up to North Shields.

The Mens 3’s had the final match of the weekend and were looking to make it 5/5 wins for Norton teams this weekend. Unfortunately, they came up against a very strong Stockton 5’s and despite playing out of their skin, lost 4-2. Goals came from Ryan and Chris, with Gabe taking the MOTM award for consistently good play. Next week they host Darlington 2’s in what should be an entertaining fixture.
