A young Danby 2nd team came to us this week. They started the game with energy and passion. Within 3 minutes, we were a goal down from an unmarked player. This caused us some tension and confusion seeing them capitalise shortly after with another unchallenged shot on goal 0v2.
With injuries plaguing our defence, we needed to shake things up. Sophie Barlow took her opportunity with both hands and made an instant impact. She held on tightly to their biggest threat to minimise any further damage.
We gained momentum and belief and at times tried a little too hard to force the ball forward. Rachel showed her skill in the midfield cutting through to slot Imogen out wide who found Debbie. As always her skill and calmness seen our first goal home 1v2 π
Our temporary celebration was cut short seeing them take full advantage of a quick and direct attack for their 3rd goal 1v3. The reality of losing the game set in. Our ladies battled for every ball, every decision and the work ethic was ramped right up. Elle, Lucy and Rachel scrapped for every loose ball in midfield. The defence pressed higher and the tables started to turn.
With only 6 players playing from the previous week, at times we showed a lack of trust in each other and over played the ball. We drowned their defence and broke through. Danni found Rachel who slotted home our second goal 2v3. They quickly retaliated which ended the half losing 4v2.
Pez asked the girls to just listen at half time. So she could explain what Lee and her could see unfolding from the sideline. They both knew the win was there for the taking, if they only believed in each other. A call for a show of passion through actions and not voices. Keep their heads and stop panicking.
The second half was like a new life. A true testament to their character and a shift in mindset. The battle was too strong and our dominance was clear. Freya was perfectly placed to sleekly sneak another one in 3v4 πͺπΌ The defence seen Danni and Liz force them out wide when they attacked. Julie cleared anything in her path in the middle with Sophie mopping up any loose balls. A more cohesive midfield seem some lovely quick movement of the ball out wide. It was no surprise to see Imogen battle to get forward and slip Debbie the machine lift it in 4v4.
Could we do it???
Rachel βdancedβ through the middle and slipped a beautiful ball to Lucy (the workhorse) Skelton who fired it in! 5v4. To change a full mentality of the game and to keep your heads up Lee and Pez are incredibly proud. You have our upmost respect. Well done ππΌ
