Mens 1's suffer big loss to North Shields

A bit of a grim read for the Mens 1’s this time but honesty is the best policy and we all as a team recognised it wasn’t our finest 70 minutes.

A tough opposition face us this week, in the shape of a recently relegated North Shields. After a great warm up I had the optimism that we could improve from the previous weeks defeat to Carlisle. We started okay, but unfortunately couldn’t replicate our fast start like all previous games this season. A very good North Shields side exposed our weaknesses and exploited us for 3 goals in quick succession very much stunning us. A reaction was needed and that came through an interception from Aaron and the pass through to Luke who seems to have found his finishing touch already this season. 3-1 at half time and a brutally honest half time team talk was needed. Experienced heads in John and Mike stood up, told the captain to pick his game up, and bring us back into life. When writing this I know I’ve been letting the team down and will pick my game up and fight harder!

A strange second half saw us vastly improve in attack with more passion shown. However the same weaknesses in our defensive effort as a team shone through and we leaked goals. A couple of unfortunate bobbles past Josh and a Penalty stroke given against skipper Josh led North Shields to a commanding lead. We finished with a well worked goal, showing our counter attacking ability through quick thinking from Dhruv and then composure from Luke and Gary saw Gary put into an empty net. 8-2 scoreline is a tough one to take but we must learn from it and improve. An honest opinion from the game was that we just aren’t currently a team working for each other as much as we were last year, new faces to the team and level will gel over time and defeats like this will shock us into gear.

Next week we play Jesmond who should be expecting a fight back from the boys. Training is key for all, so effort and passion at training extends to Saturdays, do this and we will find the wins we need.
