Our Ladies 1’s had their first pre season game on Saturday against Harrogate.
We had several new additions to the squad and also a new formation to try so we knew the game was going to be a challenge. We started off strong and kept it simple passing to a yellow shirt with a bit of pace. Harrogate had some strong defenders which meant we had to learn quickly to move the ball early with the forwards learning to hang higher than usual following the new formation.
After a bit of possession and practice at creating space our first goal came along. Amelia picked the ball up down the right wing drawing the last defender to her where she played a lovely ball through to me who was 1 on 1 with the keeper. Now usually in this scenario I miss but for once I slot it between the goal posts for a change 🤣 This gave the team heaps of confidence!
Our midfield consisting of Ella , Kait and Gaynor (with Jo and I filling in occasionally 🤣) worked tirelessly with Kait having a stormer of a game in midfield. I think Jo was getting a nose bleed being so high up the pitch 🤣
With tired legs starting to hit before half time mistakes started to creep in and Harrogate kept working hard scoring off a short bringing the scoreline to 1-1 at HT. With lots of positivity at half time we were determined to go out and give it our all and we certainly did just that! Our possession was much better and we looks strong on the attack. We finally got the break through with about 10 minutes left where Ella ended up 1 on 1 with the keeper, cool calm and collected she slotted it between the keepers legs to take us 2-1 up and a fantastic win!
Well done to Nicola, Gaynor, Lucy and Rachel on their debuts at norton you all fit in well and had fantastic games! And to Poppy and Zak who stepped up from the Ladies 2’s you both smashed it and played really well! A great start to our season well done girls 💛
