Men's 1's Vs Gateshead 1's

Norton Mens 1’s kicked off their season with a trip to Gateshead. Arriving in good spirits and a good warm up under our belts, we started the game at lightning pace. A genuine goal of the season from Luke with our first shot on goal saw us make the perfect start to the season! He called it a fluke/miss hit but what we saw was a rocket that went past the keepers head and right into the top left hand corner. After this we carried on creating chances and had chances from shorts including Josh nailing one over the bar when the target should have been hit at least. The positive start dropped off however and 2 soft goals saw us 2-1 down going into half time. Same mistakes as previous games costing us again but we are determined to put those right in the coming weeks. 

We started well yet again from the start but just couldn’t find the net. Another couple of soft goals conceded and we were 4-1 down, somewhat undeservedly… but a fight back was needed. We kept pushing forwards and had short corner after short corner, with Josh unable to put a rebound on target from just a few yards out. The pressure kept coming, mainly on our counter attacks and one managed to find its way all the way to the back post and to Oli who surely couldn’t miss.. but he somehow did! One he would definitely like to have again to turn the wrongs to rights and get his season off and running. A second for us did come however, again through Luke who made sure he didn’t do what Oli had done previously by making sure he found the target. The game finished 4-2 to Gateshead and amongst the disappointed faces there was some hope and positives to be taken about how we started the game. Something we must continue to do is play that attacking style of hockey, whilst improving our defensive work, and we will be a force to reckon with this season. A Saturday off for the boys this coming week with the typical Durham students requesting a rearrange to a Sunday…
