The Saturday Round-up 23/9

The ladies 1’s took on Newcastle Medics 1’s with a 2-0 scoreline showing how well they team are playing right now. In the words of captain Aislin, the team started with some of the best hockey she has seen them play, which resulted in the 2 goals before half time. Holly opened the scoring on her injury comeback, which was closely followed by a Kait special. Bea in goal made some great saves throughout which meant the score stayed 2-0 and the team are now 2 from 2. They move onto next Saturday where they take on the students from Durham at home, 12pm pushback.

The ladies 2’s had a battling game against Bishop Aukland where a last minute penalty flick awarded against them allowed the opposition to take a point. Goals from the returning Harriet J and Debbie again… saw the team take a 2-1 lead going into the final stages. Unfortunately a penalty flick was awarded in the final minute which allowed the opposition to take a point. 2 player of the matches went to Harriet J and Lucy D. Next week sees the team back on home turf when they take on Danny 2’s, 10am pushback.

The mens 2s took on local rivals in Stockton 4’s and came out with a well deserved 3-2 win. Goals from Graham, Carl and Dhurv proved pivotel in claiming victory. The team have started well with one narrow loss followed by this narrow win in their rebuild, looking for promotion back to division 2. Next week they host Redcar 1’s as they look to pick up where they left off. 

The mens 3’s took on old foes in Marton 4’s and boy did the lads show what they can do! A great 5-2 win with Toby scoring a hat-trick, Aaron and Mustafa also finding the target. The back line played superbly well, keeping the ball away from makeshift goalkeeper Josh as much as possibly. Trailing 2-1 at half time the young lads in midfield and up front changed their habits and looked deadly in front of goal. A 5-2 scoreline against a team they historically struggle against was a testament to the hard work they produce at training. Next week they have another local derby, when they travel to Stockton 5’s.
